William P. Williford

WILLIFORD, William Patrick “Willy” (1956-2018).

Willy Williford, age 62, passed away on May 13, 2018. Willy was born on January 25,1956 in Shreveport, LA, to Woodrow and Hazel Presley Williford.

Willy grew up in Jasper, TX, and played quarterback for the Bulldogs in the early 1970’s.  He later graduated from Jasper High School and attended Sam Houston State University with his high school sweetheart, Leslie. After getting married and graduating college, Willy coached football and taught science in several East Texas districts, then settled back down in his hometown to raise his family.  Willy was a scientist at heart, who loved teaching biology, chemistry, and physics in his long career as an educator.  He also owned and operated Southern Siding, a home improvement company.  He enjoyed playing golf, being outdoors and observing nature, watching movies, and listening to music.

Willy is survived by his two children:  daughter Lindsay and her husband, Jimmy, from Jasper TX; and son Patrick, from Portland, OR.  He also had two grandchildren, Abby and Benjamin, of whom he was very proud. He is also survived by 2 sisters (Barbara Wenner and Lisa Walker) and 3 brothers (Buddy, Terry, and Tommy), numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, and his precious Aunt “Bobbie”. Willy was preceded in death by his parents Woodrow and Hazel Williford, his sisters Joy Tewell and Faye Carroll Falkner, and his beloved brother, Woodrow Wilson “Skip” Williford.

There will be a visitation for friends and family on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Shultz Funeral Home in Jasper TX, and a celebration of Willy's life on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church- Jasper. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the “Jasper Public Schools Foundation” in Willy’s memory and in honor of his passion for science and education.
