Arthur "Art "Lay

Arthur “Art” Lay, 85, of Jasper passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Rayburn Health and Rehabilitation in Jasper. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at the Jasper Church of Christ. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Art was born on January 8, 1937 in Homer, Louisiana. He served in the United States Air Force and was retired from the Deep East Texas Council of Governments. He coached and umpired little league for many years. He was widely known for his work in radio and television. After working for KFDM TV and KLVI Radio in Beaumont, Art came to Jasper in 1974 and worked at KTXJ and in later years Rayburn Broadcasting Co. and its station KJAS. He was affectionately known as “The Voice of the Jasper Bulldogs” and announced Bulldog games for over 40 years. Art was last heard on KJAS on September 4, 2020 when he was a guest on the “Coffee With the Coach” program.

Art is survived by his son Rusty Lay &wife Susan; daughter Christie Lay; grandchildren Brandi, Shelly &Mark; as well as great grandchildren Dori, Sierra &Caden.  He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Lucille “Lucy” Lay, parents Lindon Martin &Lillian Richardson Lay, and siblings Charles Weldon Lay, Harold Lloyd Lay, &Beulah Beatrice Lay Condolences can be posted at www.shultzfuneralhomeofjasper.com or on Facebook at Shultz Funeral Home &Crematory.
