Cindy Lou VanDevender, 50, of Buna passed away peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2024 with her family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Jasper County Cowboy Church with interment to follow at Hancock Cemetery in the Peachtree Community. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church.
Cindy was born on July 10, 1973 in Freeport, Texas to Karl Coffman and Patricia Harris. She grew up in West Columbia and the Bay City area. Cindy was very active in 4-H and FFA growing up and won multiple awards for her hard work and dedication. She was a graduate of Sam Houston State University receiving her Bachelor’s Degree and she received her Master’s Degree from the University of Phoenix. She moved to Buna in 2005 and was the Jasper County Coordinator &Extension Agent. A member of the First Baptist Church of Buna, she loved coloring, sewing, and helping with the Buna fishing team. She loved her 4-H kids especially helping them be successful. She was an active teacher and advocate for Head Start and genuinely loved helping people. She loved her family and her fur babies, and leaves behind good friendships and lasting memories.
She is survived by her husband John “Chet” VanDevender of Buna; father Karl Coffman &wife Trish of Nederland; mother Pat Bowling &husband Bill of Jasper; son John Case VanDevender of Buna and Jordan Christopher VanDevender of College Station; grandson John Cooper; step-brothers Jeff Ortiz and Johnny Ortiz of Nederland; her fur babies Bella &Miley; and numerous 4H and FFA kids throughout the years.
