Edna Akers, 92, of Jasper passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026 in Jasper, Texas. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Shultz Funeral Home in Jasper. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. A private interment will be held at Decker Prairie Cemetery in Magnolia, Texas.
Edna Ophelia Akers was born on September 17, 1934 in Goosecreek, Texas to Fred & Mila Heaslet. A long time dedicated elementary school teacher, she worked for Sheldon ISD and retired from Hemphill ISD. A resident of Goosecreek and Cedar Bayou, she has been a resident of Jasper for the past six years. She enjoyed crafts, baking cakes and brownies, as well as playing card games with family and friends.
She is survived by her son Calvin Akers & wife Michelle of Bryan, Texas; great nieces Rachel Bryan & husband Kirk of Jasper and Mila Redwine & husband William of Tyler, Texas; great nephew Billy Ray McManus & wife Denise of Cold Springs, Texas; sisters Frances Williams of Jasper and Hazel Gentry of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; grandchildren Thomas, Flynt Jr., and Ryan; as well as numerous great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband B.W. Akers, Flynt Akers, and Billy Jo Akers.
