Jack “Catfish” Coleman, 88, of Jasper passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023 in Beaumont, Texas. A Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be held on July 14, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Central Louisiana Veteran's Cemetery at Fort Johnson in Louisiana.
A native of Iowa, Louisiana, Jack was born on November 24, 1934 to Albert and Dorothy Coleman. Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force on June 28, 1956. He served one tour in Vietnam with the First Air Commandos from October 1962 to May 1963. He flew B-26’s with over 50 combat missions. He earned medals that included the Distinguished Flying Cross (1963), two Air Medals, and the Air Force Expeditionary Medal. He retired from the United States Air Force at a Lieutenant Colonel after more than 20 years of service. After retirement from the Air Force, he flew commercially for Eastern Airlines and American Eagle. He moved from Conroe, Texas in 1996 to Jasper where he spent his retirement flying his private airplane, fishing, exchanging stories with the local pilots, and enjoying his family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Sandra Rhea Coleman of Jasper; sons Bobby Coleman &wife Mindy of Montgomery and Randy Coleman of Jasper; grandchildren Russell, Leigh Anne, Jarrett, and Justin; as well as a stepsister Virginia Patterson of New Jersey. He is preceded in death by his parents Albert Coleman and Dorothy Coleman, a son Kenny Coleman, and stepmother Eula Pate. He will be interred at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery with full military honors at a later date.
