James "Jim "Dowden

d. August 5, 2022

James “Jim” Dowden, 87, of Deweyville passed away Friday, August 5, 2022 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, August 12, 2022 at 3:00pm at Shultz Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 2pm until 3pm.

Jim was born on September 6, 1934 to Rufus and Cammie Dowden in Many, Louisiana. A longtime resident of Deweyville and Jasper after moving to Texas in the 60’s. He was quick to tell everyone that Kisatchie was his “home”. He served his country as a member of the United States Navy as a flight captain. Jim was a jack of all trades and master of most. He worked for many companies over the years such as the TEC Pole Plant, Bill Dover Exxon, and Butler Supply, but his true passions were CB radios and firearms. He started his business, J &J Service, over 50 years ago in in Jasper while still working full time before deciding to work for only himself in the mid-80’s and, soon after, relocating to Deweyville, where he still worked as much as he could until the very end. Jim was quick to help anyone and any organization he could, such as providing the Good Guys and Bad Guys with the Jasper Lions Club Rodeo with the 12 gauge black powder ammunition for many years. Jim loved the outdoors, his country, and his family.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, brothers Charles, Luther, and Carl, sisters Betty, Judy, and Shawnee, daughter Jimmie Lou, and son Wayne. He is survived by his sons Jimmy Dowden, Richard Dowden, Danny Dowden, all of Jasper, and Dale Dowden of Vidor; sister Mattie Jane Grimes; grandchildren Angela, Batina, Brandy, Melissa, Bobbie, Tommy, Stephen, Nina, Jennifer, Rachel, Clayton, Lucas, Morgan, Hunter, Abbie, and Sadie, numerous great and great-great grandchildren; step children Charles, Jeff, and Nancy, and; lastly, his 3 pooch hounds, Red, Romeo, and Lady, that he loved like no other. Condolences can be posted at www.shultzfuneralhomeofjasper.com or on Facebook at Shultz Funeral Home &Crematory.
