Joseph "Joe" Straz

Joseph “Joe” Mr. Fix It” Straz, 84, of Jasper passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Shultz Funeral Home in Jasper with interment at Weeks Chapel Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service.

Joe was born on November 29, 1941 in Plymouth, Massachusetts and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was known around town as “Mr. Fix It” he was a hard worker and enjoyed helping people. He enjoyed watching TV, but mostly he enjoyed and loved his family. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved watching them grow up and being part of their lives. On June 22, 1978, he married the love of his life, Gloria Straz and they lived a full and happy life for 47 years.

He is survived by his wife Gloria Straz of Jasper; son Stevan Straz of New Hampshire and Joseph Sandefer of Jasper; daughters Wanda Straz of Massachusetts and Paula Whitton and husband Steven of Jasper; grandchildren Joseph “Jody” Sandefer II, Robert “Pete” Sandefer, Lauren Bland, Katelyn Sandefer, and Lanie McNabb; as well as 13 great grandchildren.
