John Rodney Slaten, 77, of Jasper passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025 at Harbor Hospice in Jasper. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Peachtree Baptist Church. The family will greet friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. A private burial will be held at Old Union Cemetery in Lufkin.
John Rodney Slaten was born on February 16, 1947 in Lufkin, Texas to John & Lois Slaten. He was a resident of Jasper for 54 years. He and his wife Linda were married on August 9, 1969 and spent 55 years together raising a family. He worked for Louisiana Pacific for many years, where he was a Superintendent. He was a devout and faithful Christian, who loved studying the Word and bringing the message of Christ to others. He was a family man, who loved spending time and traveling to his grandkids’ sporting events. He was a very proud “Paw Paw” and loved to see his grandchildren and support them in any way possible.
He is survived by his wife Linda Slaten of Jasper; sons Lance Slaten & wife Lindsay of Longview and Jared Slaten & wife Tina of Lufkin; brothers Charles Slaten & wife Lindsey of Evansville, Indiana and Stephen Slaten of Lufkin; grandchildren Justin, Audrey, Brody, Jake, Caroline, and Harper Slaten; sister-in-law Joyce Waller & husband Jerry of Lufkin; and brother-in-law Billy Odom of Lufkin.
