Karen McLeod Barber, 62 passed away on Monday November 8, 2021 at Woodland Heights Medical Center in Lufkin. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at The First United Methodist Church in Jasper, with burial to follow at Hilton-Grigsby Cemetery in Beech Grove. The family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Shultz Funeral Home in Jasper.

Karen was born on October 6, 1959 in Waco, TX to Terrance Buck McLeod and Elizabeth Frost McLeod. Karen was raised in Temple, TX. Even from a young age, she was exceptional at everything she put her mind to. She especially loved her family, sports, and music. Karen graduated in 1977 from Temple High School where she excelled in tennis and orchestra. She went on to attend Oral Roberts University and graduated in 1981.Upon graduation from Oral Roberts, Karen moved to Washington D.C. where she worked for several years as a consultant and speech writer. She stayed in D.C. for almost 10 years and was able to foster a successful career working on various projects and advancing her conservative ideals. During this time, while home for Christmas, Karen met her beloved husband, David. They were married in March of 1992 at the First United Methodist Church of Jasper. Her children were her heart and soul. She adored them and cherished every moment with them. Karen delighted in their accomplishments and their love of the Lord. She always mentioned how tremendous of a legacy they were of David and her. Years later, she took on the role of “Gamma” when her grandchildren were born. This was a name she so lovingly endeared and she wore it well. Her grandchildren lit up her world, and they treasured their time with her.

Karen is survived by her beloved family; parents, Buck and Libby McLeod of Jasper; son Glenn Barber &wife Haleigh Pickett Barber of Lufkin; daughter Beth Barber of Houston; Grandchildren Isaac Glenn Barber, Micah Elizabeth Barber, &eagerly anticipated grandson, David James Barber; brother John McLeod &wife Julie of Andrews, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, David Glenn Barber; &brother James “Jim” Andrew McLeod.
