Laurene Lindley Cowart, 90, of Jasper, TX, passed away on April 27, 2021 at home in Jasper. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Shultz Funeral Home with interment to follow at West Oaks Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Laurene Lindley Cowart was born in Fostoria, Texas to Sam Semion Lindley and Laura Hyatt Lindley on April 5, 1931. She graduated from Jasper High School and attended college at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, TX. She married George Cowart on January 17, 1953, in Jasper, TX. Laurene worked as a supervisor for Wal-Mart in Jasper for 23 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved sewing, quilting and crocheting. Laurene was an excellent seamstress and made both daughters’ beautiful wedding dresses. Her dinner table was always set with delicious food and welcoming to family and visitors alike. Laurene was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper. She also was a member of the Jasper Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 291. Laurene’s Lindley ancestors moved to Texas from Illinois in 1832 with one of the sons, Jonathan Lindley, perishing in the battle of the Alamo in the fight for Texas independence.
Laurene is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Laura Lindley, her husband George Cowart, son Ralph Lindley Cowart, and her two siblings, brother Sam Lindley and sister Geneva Lindley McMahon.
Laurene is survived by sons James Richard Cowart, Raymond Alan Cowart &wife Kathy, Randall R. Cowart; daughters Diane Cowart Noah &husband Don, Kay Cowart Tranchita &husband Kevin; grandchildren Kandace and Eric Ballard, Kyle and Lindsey Brogan, Abel and Natalie Noah, Shelby Cowart, Caymon Cowart, Macy and Grant Anderson, Nicole and Matthew Crocker, Andrea and Alex Bridges, Ross Cowart, Christopher Cowart, Holly Cowart and great grandchildren Kya Ballard, Bailey Ballard, Graham Brogan and Isla Brogan.
