Lillian Alice Read

July 3, 1931 — April 30, 2026

Lillian Alice "NaNaw" Read (née Ratley), a remarkable woman of 94 years, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, in Inverness, Florida. Born on July 3, 1931, in Newton, Texas, Lillian lived a life defined by intelligence, determination, and an unwavering devotion to her family and faith.

Lillian was a trailblazer in her career, breaking barriers in the petrochemical industry in Houston, Texas—a field traditionally dominated by men. As a Project Control Engineer, she excelled with her sharp intellect and dedication. Her professional accomplishments were matched only by her vibrant personal life.

A devoted Baptist and faithful servant of the Lord throughout her life, Lillian’s faith was a cornerstone of her character. Her weekends were cherished times spent with family—boating, fishing, camping, and creating memories that will be treasured for generations. After retiring, she continued to embrace adventure through extended travels in their motorhome alongside her late husband Travis Read.

Lillian’s love for gardening and cooking brought joy to those around her. She had a passion for exploring new places and sharing experiences with loved ones. Her wit and intelligence remained sharp until the very end—a testament to the vibrant spirit that defined her life.

She is survived by her loving children: Steven Read and his wife Maryanne of Inverness, FL; Reba Wallis and her husband Phil of Casselberry, FL; as well as her grandchildren: Tiffany Menville of Lumberton, TX; Katie Ulmer and her husband Aaron of Anchorage, AK; Jenny Iwinski and her husband Thomas of Houston, TX. Lillian also leaves behind great-grandchildren Ashton and Kyra Ulmer; Lily and Evan Iwinski; along with many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

Lillian was predeceased by her beloved husband of almost 52 years Travis Read; daughter Irene Menville; and son-in-law Howard Menville.

A force of nature in every sense of the word, Lillian lived fully—her “dash” between birth and death was nothing short of extraordinary. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and inspiration that will continue to guide those who were fortunate enough to know her.

May Lillian Alice "NaNaw" Read rest in eternal peace as those who loved her carry forward the lessons she imparted through a life well-lived. A Funeral will be held on May 8, 2026, at 01:00 PM at Shultz Funeral Home 1900 S Wheeler Street, Jasper, Texas 75951.
