Jasper

Lynn Douglas “Doug” McDaniel, 85, of Jasper, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at First United Methodist Church in Deweyville, Texas.

Doug was born on July 29, 1940 in DeQuincy, Louisiana. For the majority of his life, he proudly called Deweyville home. He was profoundly invested in the community and held deep pride of his Hryhorchuk family roots. Doug was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from Local 211 as a pipefitter/welder. He was a resident of Deweyville until 2016, when he moved to Jasper.

Until his passing, Doug’s steadfast commitment and love for his home of Deweyville remained a constant throughout his life. This love was shown through his immense and immeasurable service to others. Among the many things in which he dedicated his time and efforts, he was a caretaker for the Deweyville Community Cemetery, served on the school board, provided lawn care for friends and loved ones, and diligently served his church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 126 of Orange.

Doug enjoyed welding, tractors, caring for numerous pets, spending time outside, and keeping his 1997 Ford F-250 in impeccable condition; however, his greatest devotion was to his faith and family. He was a devoted Methodist, loving husband and father, and a proud Granddaddy. Doug is survived by his wife, René McDaniel, of nearly 59 years, who he married on August 17, 1966. He is also survived by his two daughters and their families: Karen Ward, husband Scotty, and their daughter Lauren Barbay, husband Brock; Tara Guillory, husband Gerald, and their son Justin.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Doug’s memory may make a contribution to Deweyville First United Methodist Church at P.O. Box 108 Deweyville, Texas 77614.
