Michael Shannon “Hambone” Chambliss was born to Charles Wayne & Carolyn Chambliss on September 23, 1966 in Jasper, Texas. He is survived by his parents; his sister Dana Robison & husband Wes of Columbus, Mississippi; his uncle Billy Chambliss & wife Mary of Lufkin, Texas; nephews Jacob Robison & wife Ashley of Ridgefield, Washington, Josh Robison & wife Emma of Lumberton, Texas; and niece Rachel Crowder & husband Josh of Columbus, Mississippi; as well as his great nieces and nephews Lanna, Lillian, & Liam Robison of Ridgefield, Washington, Triston, Troy, & Olivia Abrams of Columbus, Mississippi, and Marshall Robison of Lumberton, Texas. He is also survived by numerous cousins.

Shannon was a man of many talents. Before graduation from Jasper High School in 1985, he was already working with his daddy at Wingfield Trucking repairing trucks. He learned how to weld in high school and everything else just came naturally. It was a gift that all the Chambliss men have. He also rebuilt transmissions, motors, and could fix any vehicle. He even restored a vintage El Camino many years ago, which he and Randy Kellum would drag race in Evadale. One year someone gave him a 5th wheel frame, and he build a body on it. It took him nine months because he was a perfectionist and every board had to be the exact length-not even 1/8 inch off. The inside walls are cedar that he cut from trees people would give him. Shannon even built the furniture in it out of cedar, and if his mother wanted something built, he gladly did it. Another one of his talents that few people knew about was that he learned to play the guitar. Loving a challenge, he built a guitar out of a magnolia tree that had been cut down at his grandparent’s house. It turned out beautiful, and his love for building them spanned several years. He built at least ten, and a couple more had been started. People wanted to buy them, but he just wanted to keep it a hobby. However, he did give one of them to his nephew, Josh. There are a few times when they would play the guitars together when Josh would be in for a visit from Mississippi. Of course an avid outdoorsman, in his younger years including fishing and hunting. He and Mike Hollis spent many days on Lake Sam Rayburn fishing for crappie. Several deer head are hanging on his walls that he had mounted himself. He also loved helping his dad at the farm, raising vegetables.

In recent years, he developed a love for cats and was known in Beech Grove as the “cat man”. Always willing to take in any strays and treat them well, even taking them to a vet.

Shannon was never boastful about anything he did; he just went about his life quietly, enjoying his hobbies and his work. He did not like being in the spotlight and tried to avoid it. He had a very pleasant disposition and a kind heart!
